Ruben Amorim says his Man Utd side 'are being the worst team in history' of club after 3-1 defeat by Brighton

Ruben Amorim has described his Man Utd side as "the worst team maybe in the history of Manchester United".

Brighton secured a 3-1 win at Old Trafford on Sunday to keep United mired in the bottom half of the Premier League as Amorim's torrid start to his tenure at the club continued.

"In 10 games in the Premier League, we won two," said Amorim.

"Imagine what this is for a fan of Manchester United. Imagine what this is for me. So we are getting a new coach that is losing more than the last coach. I have full knowledge of that.

"Like I said, I'm not going to change, no matter what. I know we can succeed, but we need to survive this moment. Because I'm not naive and I know that we need to survive now.

"We are being the worst team maybe in the history of Manchester United. I know that you want headlines, but I'm saying that because we have to acknowledge that and to change that. Here you go, your headlines."

United are currently 13th in the Premier League. Bruno Fernandes' penalty was United's only shot on target during their loss to Brighton.

"I don't really get it at the moment," said the United captain. "We talk all the time about how difficult it is to play at Old Trafford. How can it be that Man Utd has difficulties to play at their home ground with the atmosphere that we have, with the great stadium and everything?"

Amorim described his Man Utd side as "the worst team maybe in the history of Manchester United", so does the Portuguese have a point? Here's what the stats say:

In his post-match interview with Zone Sporty VIP, Amorim doubled down on his intention not to change his style of play at Manchester United, despite concerns about his 3-4-3 formation.

But when asked if matters are going to continue like this for a while until the Portuguese can stamp a mark on his team, Amorim replied: "That is clear. With me, that is clear. Because I'm not going to change the way I see the game. I'm very clear on that.

"The players are going to suffer, I'm sorry, the fans are going to suffer. I have one way of doing things, I know it's going to [bring] results. But we have to suffer these moments. I think it's very clear for everybody what we are going to do."

When asked about accepting whether results like this will continue, United captain Fernandes replied: "It can't be. I understand the perspective from the outside. But we can't be comfortable in thinking that this is ok. Because it's not.

"I'm not here to lose games and be in the position we are in at the moment. But I know that no-one in that dressing room is and if someone is, they can't be here."

Zone Sporty VIP' Adam Bate at Old Trafford: "Desperately poor again from United. They salvaged it in the second half against Southampton, this time Brighton deservedly took the game away from them. Amorim warned that it would be a rollercoaster. This was another dip."

Jamie O'Hara on Zone Sporty VIP News: "Big, big problems for Man Utd. I am not sure about Amorim with the 3-4-3. They were miles off it. It was a really bad performance. They offered nothing."

Zone Sporty VIP' Sam Blitz: "Before the match, Ruben Amorim complained opponents find it too easy against his team at Old Trafford - and then watched his side completely submit to Brighton. Remember, this was a Seagulls side who went eight league games without a win before this week. What would the score have been had United played a form team?"
