Antony transfer news: Manchester United winger joins Real Betis on loan

Real Betis have signed Manchester United winger Antony on loan for the remainder of the season, subject to international clearance.

Antony joins Betis on a straight loan deal, with United recovering a minimum of 84 per cent of his salary plus bonuses.

United are keen for Antony to get regular first-team football before re-assessing his future in the summer, and the Seville-based side do not have an option to buy the player at the end of the loan deal.

A Manchester United statement read: "Everybody at United would like to wish Antony the best of luck for his spell in Seville."

Betis are managed by former Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini, and are still involved in this season's UEFA Conference League.

United played Betis in the United States, in July, as part of their pre-season tour, with Antony appearing in the second half of a 3-2 victory for his parent club.

Antony joined United from Ajax in September 2022 to work under his former boss Erik ten Hag for an £86m fee that made him the second-most expensive signing in the club's history.

But the 24-year-old has failed to justify his price tag, scoring 12 goals in 96 appearances.

Antony has scored only one Premier League goal since April 2023 and his starts have decreased from 23 in the Premier League in his first year to 15 last season and none during the current campaign.

The winger has played in just 13 of United's 32 games in all competitions this season.

Antony's contract is up in 2027 and includes a club-held option of a further year.

The Brazilian has been in every squad under Ruben Amorim so far, bar one - but has yet to start a Premier League game this season.

Manchester United's pursuit of a left wing-back does not hinge on outgoings in this transfer window.

As Zone Sporty VIP News reported upon Amorim's appointment, left wing-back has been circled as the priority position and was the one transfer highly likely to happen in this window regardless of the club's situation.

Talks have been held for Patrick Dorgu, with Lecce expecting an offer from United.

Meanwhile, the club are also exploring a series of other possibilities in different positions dependent on outgoings.

Alejandro Garnacho is attracting interest from Napoli and Chelsea, while Marcus Rashford said he wants a new challenge before this transfer window.

Rashford's preference is a move to Barcelona although his hopes of a move to the Spanish club are receding with each day. Borussia Dortmund have also checked in about the conditions of a loan.
